My good friend Matthew developed this game. Predatory is a board and card game for two or more players. Each player begins the game with a set of twelve cards of different values that are used to capture opposing cards according to precise rules. The object is to put the opponent’s highest ranking predator under a direct attack from which escape is impossible.

I was asked to pick and illustrate twelve predatory animals for the deck of cards. The flipped image of the animal figures were inspired by the illustrated face cards. The black and white engraving illustration style coupled with their hollowed out eyes give these game cards cast a strange and unnatural mood to the game.
