A video project in appropriation using works by painter and anthropologist, Wangechi Mutu. By collaging her collages, I emphasized certain details of fashion magazines, medical illustrations, and porn magazine cutouts to illustrate the elements of existing stereotypes present in the western media ideals of the black female body.

I decided to film my process of remaking Mutu’s collages as I painted my hand metallic silver to recall festive tribal body paint. I used Planet Claire by the B-52’s for the soundtrack, with its drumming and beeping, to wed the primitive with the futuristic, a recurring theme in Mutu’s work
